In Science, the children are exploring the characteristics of several different kinds of balls (a small bouncy ball, a ping pong ball, a marble, a styrofoam ball, a rubber baseball, etc.). In the pictures below, students are exploring which balls will roll when a child blows through a straw. The children discovered that the size of a ball does not determine if it rolls easily; the largest ball was a styrofoam ball that rolled very easily, and the smallest ball was a marble that didn't roll easily at all!

In math, the students are exploring the concept of grouping. First, they built numbers 6-10 by first creating a group of 5. Then, they began building numbers 11-19 by first creating a group of 10. The children are learning that 6-10 are "5 and some more" and the teen numbers are "10 and some more." In addition, we are practicing the skill of counting on from a number other than one. The children also practiced writing addition equations with a partner.
Wow! The 100th Day of School projects were amazing! We were all excited to hear the children tell about how they counted the objects to make their project. Some children make groups of 10s or 5s, some counted one by one, and other found even more ways to count to 100! Way to go kids! Thanks for sharing your thinking with us!
