We reached the end of our how-to unit in writing, and the students celebrated by reading their book to their classmates! After hearing their classmates' books, the children told one another one thing they liked about it.

The students began exploring 3-D shapes by working in a small group to sort 2-D and 3-D shapes in several different ways. Then, I showed the way one group sorted their shapes, and we came back together and had a discussion using the prompts, "I see... I think.... I wonder..." Finally, they all sorted between 2-D and 3-D shapes and began exploring characteristics of 3-D shapes.
During the month of April, the students learned a little about what Autism is and how they can be a good friend to someone who has Autism. They also worked with their 3rd grade buddies to make a puzzle piece pin for Autism awareness.
The students have been learning a lot about how how-to books are written. Pictured below are some of the books whose authors have served as our mentors throughout the unit. Also, check out some of the charts we created throughout the unit that highlighted our learning, and co-writing a how-to chart together!
