I encouraged the students to think about times in their life when they may have experienced something similar to the characters in the two books we read. Students shared about times they lost something, times they made a new friend, went on a trip, had a sleepover, played with a cousin, and more! All of these are what we call "personal narratives," and the students will be learning how to draw and write these stories this year!
The students shared their stories with a partner and we talked about what it means to be a good speaker and a good listener.
We also took out the dry erase boards and practiced drawing common things such as people, houses, and trees.
