As we learn about reading non-fiction texts, the students worked with their reading partner to look for books on the same topic and discuss how these books are the same and how they're different. When noticing the books' similarities and differences, I encouraged the students to make connections to what they can learn from comparing the two books.

As we began a new unit in math, the students extended their thinking of number partners. In the previous unit, we manipulated numbers within 5 to make two groups and find addends that make a sum of 5. In this unit, we began using a stick of 10 cubes ("Tower of 10"), breaking it apart into two groups, and writing an equation to show how the two groups make a sum of 10. |
